I don't know if Kudzu does sane.

Just 'Run Application' -> 'kudzu'<Enter>.  That is how I would do it in
GNOME.

Check out the sane website to see if you scanner it listed.  Sane ships
will all the scanner drivers the sane project has, but usually they are
ALL commented out (disabled).  You lookup the one you want to use and
uncomment it - then wa-la.
