Just as a piece of info since getting DVD and Quicktime playback are of 
interest to me on Linux.

To get Mplayer to play DVD's, Window Media, and Quicktime files, the later two 
in browser, find and install these files:

xvid_1.0.1-0.pm.0_i686.rpm

This small collection of files worked for me.  I tried using Kplayer (KDE 
frontend to Mplayer, but this didn't work as well as gmplayer).
