Well I bit the bullet and installed MythTV on Suse. The last time I posted to the list I was having issues with getting MythTV working on Fedora. Actually I think the issue was with ALSA. It was suggested to give Suse a try and doing an FTP install. So I went home and downloaded the SUSE install ISO and just before I booted to the CD I did an update (I have no Idea why as I was about to wipe the disk) and low and behold alsa started working. So that put the kabash on the Suse install (For now). Then for the life of me I could not get my remote working in myth.

So just for fun I dived into Suse. At first I was not to sure about it but I think it is just getting familiar with it. (Anyone got any good Suse links I can read up on?) I had/have I few issues I am sure I can get resolved but have already spent more time than I have on it.

One of the problems was getting Nvidia drivers working. After the install I did an update and Installed the Nvida fetch utility. Well Ithink that was a mistake due to there being a kernal update in there so the Nvidia drivers got updated to the old kernel. So I re-did everything but this time updated the system without the Nvidia drivers. Reboot and then installed the Drivers. Now I can get the drivers working but for some reason I get a blank screen for about 5 minutes while it loads the drivers.

Also for some reason I can not ssh into the box. I do get a login prompt but it seems to think my password is wrong and gives me I access denied. I seem to remember having a similiar problem with RH 8 and that end being some thing with the encryption scheme it was using to store the passwords.

Well as for the Mythtv install with Suse it went pretty smooth. I used the RPM's that Bruce pointed out. I did have to force a couple but everything seems to be fine. All I needed to do was specify my tuner type and commentent out a linie in modprobe.conf.local and setuo my remot config files and I was pretty much ready to go. All I have left to do is get the TV going and figure out a way to get Myth to talk to my cable box(Right now I have the cable plugged right into the tuner). The TV is off center and a black border but I think I am using the wrong resolution and I think I am using the NV drivers and not the Nvidia. As for the cable box I am going to try to see if Comcast can replase it with one that has a serial connection.

Later
