Hey gang,
Thought the list would be interested to know that I recently purchased a
Linksys (now owned by Cisco) EFG120 Network Attached Storage device. I chose
Linksys over the competition because it uses embedded Linux for the NAS OS.
Some of the vendors bury the info on the NAS OS in the docs. The competition
offered both Linux and Microshaft based NAS. Talk about a no-brainer.
I stuck a second 120GB hard disk in the EFG120 clicked on format and I had
240GB for backing up data from client desktops. Total cost for 240GB was
right around $800.
I am about to pickup a second NAS that is BSD based. It has built-in
capability to do disk to disk backup. I can then use a free Java based tape
backup program, AKGBackup, to archive specific data from the NAS to tape.
There are lots of cool things going on in storage.
Regards,
Bob
