Have you looked at X-forms?  I just read a bit about them a couple of
weeks ago, it is a standard*.  It was/is designed to address the issue
of the rather lousy form description permitted in HTML.  But not being a
web-devel person primarily I only looked at is as far as to think "Looks
cool, I really hope they come up with something."  Don't know where is
stands as far as browser adoption.

*(I don't know exactly what they mean by that: overseen, RFC, etc...
Just calling something "standard" don't make it so).
