I create CD's by right clinking on an ISO file and selecting 'write to
cd' and inserting a blank CD media into the drive and dropping the
required contents into the nautilus cd-writer and clinking 'write to
cd'. I've made several CDs in a row this way and never noticed any
diminished performance - and proceeded to go without rebooting for 24+
hours (it is a laptop, so eventually it gets turned off when I want to
stuff it in the bag).
