Actually, rather little these days.  Gone are the big spinning locks.

You want the SMP kernel, or you'll loose alot of the hyperthreading
advantages;  at least that what I was told.  Haven't looked into it much
personally.  But it would be very interesting to see the effect of
processor pinning on a hyperthreaded CPU,  just need more time....
