Ah!  Makes sense now.  

I remember Mr. Pillars mumbling something about this.  They've 
apparently moved off XFree86's to X.Org's X in keeping with Fedora's 
continuing quest to become the most horked-up unstable distribution 
available.

Sigh,  apparently no distribution wants the 
reasonably-up-to-date-GNOME-workstation-for-people-who-want-to-get-things-done 
award anymore; one much choose between stale (SuSe), unsupported 
(Mandrake), or unstable (Fedora).   I really hope the next relase of SuSe 
doesn't suck.
