I think I know what the problem is, I just don't have the solution
yet.

When I go to Sourceforge and click on a download link, the browser is
sent to a list of mirror sites. When I click on a mirror the automatic
download starts. At this point a dialog box comes up giving me the
option to "save as" "open" or "cancel". There is also a check box for
"Do not ask again". My guess is at some point this check box was
selected with the "Open" selection so you would automatically open
every file. Unfortunately I haven't found where to undo this yet. I
would look in your .kde/share/config/konquerorrc file.
