under rh9 mkisofs gave the error that the file was too big.
under Suse 9.1 it doesn't give the error but the effect is the same.
When I burn the DVD or when I mount the iso with the loop option the
2.9GB file is only 7+MB and diff fails.

Did you try mounting the iso? What options did you make it with?
