[KLUG Members] rpm trouble - FC3 install

I just installed FC3 over my RH9 system which worked beautifully.
I did not follow Adam's advice and save /home and restore it later and I
have lost nothing that I have noticed so far.
The only problem I've had is in getting planetCCRMA, the Stanford U.
sound system, to work, using the apt system which I had been using with
good results with RH9. However, using the GNOME "system
settings"->"soundcard detection" led me to good sound output but without
the simple choice between the motherboard sound Intel chip and a
separate sound card which I had with CCRMA. The problem with CCRMA is
that they have not yet even gotten a version that works well with FC2,
so I'll have to wait a while.

I updated my FC3 conversion with up2date which worked like a charm with
no hitches so I now have a truly current system which should give better
performance. So far I haven't noticed it. A GNOME startup problem
which I had had in RH9 is still present but gnome comes up fine for my
purposes. I'm sure security is better than with RH9 and I look forward
to other improvements. I had planned on going to SUSE, following
Bruce's advice but when I saw the Fedora Core 3 announcement, I jumped
on it. As I write this, I'm listening to to an mp3 of 'like a bird on a
wire' sung by Leonard Cohen which I had just grip'd from a CD, taking
less time it seemed than before.
