[KLUG Members] Yahoo messenger + squid + win XP Home don't play as normal user?

Hello

The setup is as follows:
* Server: An Intel box with dual NIC's running FC2, Squid 2.5.x,
DansGuardian 2.8.x
* Clients: 25 Intel boxes running WinXP Home
* Network: 100 Mbp/s switched ethernet
* All clients access the net through squid... direct access is blocked.
* User authentication is enforced on squid (and it works fine with no
problems).
* Yahoo messenger is configured to use squid as the proxy for
connecting.

The problem: Yahoo messenger works fine when I use it with an
administrator account, but gives a "unable to connect, check proxy
settings" error when I try to use it on a regular account. This problem
is replicable on all the 25 clients.

I suspect that this is a WinXP Home permission problem, but can't find
anything useful on the net as a workaround [spent most of yesterday
evening trying to figure it out!].

Has anyone faced similar problems with XP Home on an authenticated squid
proxy network? I'd be grateful for suggestions or pointers to help
rectify this problem.

Regards,

Komal
