You mean one of those MAS units from Mitel?

Yes, these things are strange.  These 'managed' distributions are just
like all the MTAs (other than sendmail) that were created because
sendmail was so complicated - and ended up being just as complicated -
because an open-ended problem (like "provide network infrastructure to a
company") by necessity requires a complex answer.  Attempts to create a
simple answer result in weirdness, you eventually get a
simply-complicated answer instead of a straight forward complicated
answer.
