If you are using a terminal emulator that supports xterm escape sequences you 
can use xtermset to set the foreground and background colors any time that you 
want to.

If you control the creation of the terminal emulator you can use the -fg and -bg 
  options to set the colors.

You can probably also specify them as options in .Xdefaults.
