Yeah, it has been like that for a very long time.  The mplayer team is
kind of an extreme reactionary/paranoid group.  There documentation used
to contain a 'your a moron if this does not work for you' clause (and
moron is my nice and cleaned-up translation).  These guys make a great
little media player, other than that I route everything they say into
the same bucket as Jerry Falwell and Louis Farahkan.
