[KLUG Members] SMTP relay (sort of...)

I'm sure I'm being a bit thick on this one but I can't seem to get this to
work. A multifunction printer/scanner/copier (old Minolta/Konica) on my
local network has a configuration option to send a scanned document to an
email address. The local network is attached to SBC DSL through a run of
the mill broadband router. SBC (and most ISPs) now require authenticated
SMTP for sending mail. The scanner does not include an option to
authenticate (it assumes a nonauthenticated SMTP server at the address you
provide). This seems like a pretty simple problem to solve. (i.e. point
the scanner to a local SMTP server that can relay) However, I've been
unable to get this to work. I've tried several things (Both Linux and
WinXP based). I'm looking for unauthenticated SMTP that will relay from
the local network (outbound only) to an authenticating SMTP server
(probably belonging to SBC). Anyone got any ideas?

Regards,

Bob
