You can control all HTTP traffic via Squid, so if you don't have users 
who need
"all the Internet" that works.  We just have two classes of users: those
limited to pre-approved sites, and those with unrestricted access (we record
everyone's traffic however).   Then you can make those logs available to
everyone on a web-page - reduces allot of problems.

My concern with IM clients is that they are a real security problem,  
and often
designed in such a way that it is CLEAR and OBVIOUS that that is exactly what
they are meant to me.
