You should be able to boot from a RAID1 (software) with no problems.

I would hope that SLES9 would be smart enough to have config options
for RAID1 (software) at install time. That's how I've been doing it
for what I run. Setting up RAID1 after everything's been isntalled on
one drive is kind of a pain.

One thing to make sure of: make sure that GRUB is installed to both
drives - ubuntu and RH don't always seem to run grub on both drives,
which kinda borks your ability to boot if the 'boot' drive dies.

I have one (down from two) systems at home booting from a software
RAID1, and I ran grub on each drive - I can disable or switch the boot
order and the system doesn't know. I've done the same with a dozen or
so systems at work, too.

If it's a RAID1 on a RAID card, linux won't even know about the RAID -
it'll just see a SCSI drive, and the RAID controller will hide all the
nitty gritty.

If you need help with a software RAID1, you can probably get it here,
or write me off-list.
