I don't see why not.  If a longer upgrade cycle and real support make
you more comfortable then go for it.  That is what you are buying,  as
far as scaling and such go the kernel and related packages are all
basically the same. 

I don't know if Novell ships any of its cool toys with SLES9.

Only a mad man would install FC4 on a server.  We use SuSe10/SuSePro9.3
on most of our servers.
