The Samba project provides *EXCELLENT* documentation.  And it is kept very up to date.   Unless 
you are out on the fringe of functionality there is no reason to confuse yourself with third 
party crap.

The question here is dealt with explicitly.

Especially in the 3.x series,  things are changing FAST.

I like to explicity declare allot of directives in the smb.conf,  thist 
makes it bear the same functionality forward with less fuss.
