I couldn't figure out how to disable things in XF86Config but I found
the program "redhat-config-xfree86", though that didn't work at first
either.

I ended up hooking up the old monitor and using the config program to
change settings, swap vga connectors to see if it works on the new
monitor, when it didn't, swap back and try another setting. Rinse,
lather, repeat.

Eventually found something working, it's now at 1024x768 at full color.
It surely has better capabilities (it's a 17" lcd) but I only could play
with it for about five seconds before I had to hand it over to it's
rightful owner.

Where's the eggnog?
