Allow me to voice my support of the Macintosh. I have a 15" PowerBook,
and there are quite a few "3rd party" drivers for it, same as what's
available in Linux.

One thing: you'll need to go out and buy a 3-button mouse.

I've never tried out Yellow Dog Linux, but that's the "main" distro for
running Linux on the Mac. There's also Gentoo, and everything i've
heard about it is that it rocks.

I don't have Linux on my PowerBook because it has FreeBSD on it
already. Everything I've wanted to do I can do with Mac OS X. Maybe
someday I'll play with Linux on it, but for now I'm pretty damn happy
with Mac OS X.

Also, if you want to dual-boot, there's an added option on the Mac
instead of standard dual-booting: Mac-on-Linux. Just boot your Mac in
Linux, and fire up the Mac OS in a window whenever you need to. It's
not emulated, it's running on the actual hardware, so it's quite
speedy. check out maconlinux.org for more info.

Hardware-wise, I've generally seen that Apple's products have excellent
track records. They also have the best rating in Consumer Reports for
customer support.
