[KLUG Members] weird KDE problem

I've got a baffling XWindows problem on my SuSE 9.2 box.  One particular 
account can create a remote KDE session across the network, but not at 
the console.  I've tried various other session settings (failsafe, fvwm, 
etc.) with no success.  Other accounts can login to the console, and the 
problem account can log in as a remote X session, a console bash login, 
or through ssh.  There's nothing useful in /var/log/messages except 
"session started for user mike, session ended for user mike".  What's 
going on here????
