The OOo encryption involves creating an 20 byte SHA1 hash of the
password, adding a 16 byte salt and encrypting the document with
Blowfish.  Encryption occurs after compression.

It won't keep out any 'three-letters', but is certainly safe enough for
normal use.

But nothing beats turning the machine off. :)
