All that being true, "Monstrous" refers to the notion that the same data is 
represented in 41.62 (292 KB vs. 7184 bytes as an swx) times the space, and
one method of producing the PDF results in something that is only 4738 bytes,
or 63.1 times smaller.

Data representations that differ so widely are curious, to say the least. If
Eric's original document was ten times larger (common), or 100 times larger,
the monstrous nature of the problem may be somewhat more clear. Also, if one
has many such documents, the cost of "monstrous" differences like this become 
even clearer.
