Yep.

If you are actually trying to run VNC independent from the local display
for separate 'sessions' you should have it run "X  -query localhost"
rather than starting the desktop itself.  Then it will contact your
XDMCP display manager and you'll get a login screen and it will run all
the over-the-hills-and-through-the-woods song-and-dance for you as if
you were logging into X 'normally' (or would that be 'traditionally'?
defining normal for X11 is a tall order :)
