Are you aware of the "apropos" command?  This searches man pages for a
phrase, like "apropos swap" as in -

awilliam at aleph:~> apropos swap
mkswap (8)           - set up a Linux swap area
swapon (2)           - start/stop swapping to file/device
swapoff (2)          - start/stop swapping to file/device
swab (3)             - swap adjacent bytes
swapcontext (3)      - manipulate user context
swapon (8)           - enable/disable devices and files for paging and
swapping
swapcontext (3p)     - manipulate user contexts
swapoff (8)          - enable/disable devices and files for paging and
swapping
swab (3p)            - swap bytes
thotswap (8)         - change the device in the SelectBay of a Toshiba
laptop without rebooting
