some of those mini-ITX boards aren't actually all that expensive. For 
this task, building a mini machine with a mini-ITX board and a cheap 
3.5" hard drive would probably be cheaper than the Mac mini. Not that 
I'm against the idea of a Mac mini (hell, I'm a Macintosh Zealot), but 
for just something to drive a display, I'm thinking that the system 
doesn't have to have too much oomph...

A mini ITX board can be had for less than $200 (and that's a brand new 
1Ghz board with processor, integrated video and whatnot), and I'm 
imagining that a hard drive large enough for this application could be 
had for nothing or next to nothing. The display could be a cheap flat 
panel display that everybody seems to have nowadays.

enclosing it all in something that would look nice on a wall would just 
require some carpentry skills...
