"FUSE, like the no-longer-supported LUFS, is designed to provide an
abstract interface for making remote files and file systems appear and
act as if they were on your local file system. Therefore, for example,
developers and expert users can set up their systems so that users can
easily access ftp or SMB (Simple Message Block) file systems just as if
they were local file systems."

Has anyone used FUSE? Because accessing remote filesystems is still a
pain; having to smbmount with a litany of options or use the GNOME VFS
layer which is still only supported by a weenie fraction of
applications. Ugh.
