I don't have an iPod so I don't know how well this works but the KDE
audio player - Amorak, which handles play lists, collections etc. has
a built in iPod connector  on SuSE 10. On the left panel there is a
tab for Media Devices. It instructs you to "Click on the Connect
button to acces your mounted iPod. Drag and drop files to enqueue the
for transfer." At the bottom of the window there are a button to
connect and another to transfer.

It would appear the iPod is well supported on Linux.
