You want the route that the encrypted VPN packets take before they're 
reassembled and decrypted?  The best way to do that would be to 
traceroute to the external IP of the machine that handles the other end 
of the tunnel.  Real Internet IP, not the internal one.

If you have trouble finding those numbers, the 2nd entry in a traceroute 
to somewhere from each end should be pretty close.
