There's some new information on this problem, which produces a new
theory. I dusted off the motherboard sound on this board (nforce3), and
it records decently. I'm using a tape deck with RCAs as a source and an
adapter cable to the miniplug that the motherboard has. I have to turn
the volume all the way down to avoid distortion, probably because line
level output is louder than headphone. Also, I stopped using
motherboard sound because it doesn't get along with amarok all that
well, so going back to motherboard sound is not an ideal solution. I
think the cs64x sound driver for this card doesn't support the inputs
properly, but it works fine for playback.

Here's the question: How hard is it to make alsa support two sound
cards, one for playback and a different one for recording?
