There's also something called 'genpower' ('man genpowerd', 'man gentest'), 
which comes with Slackware (and probably some other distros). This project 
seems to be going nowhere since there are no releases on the SourceForge 
website:

I tried it briefly in Jul 2004 and wasn't very impressed. Since 'apcupsd' 
delivered what I needed, I never looked back at 'genpower'.

Also, although I haven't used it, I suspect the previously-mentioned NUT 
(http://www.networkupstools.org) would far surpass 'genpower' in capability 
and vitality.
