For an easier way to access the CUPS documentation, just point your web
browser here (while the 'cupsd' daemon is running, of course):

   http://localhost:631

Then click the 'On-Line Help' link.

Despite the possibly-misleading name, you do _not_ need an Internet connection
for this. It's 'on-line' in the sense that it's "non-printed" documentation.

Here's what you should see:

-------------------------

Documentation

The following documentation for CUPS is available on this server:

Whitepaper - An Overview of the Common UNIX Printing System ( HTML | PDF )
Software Users Manual ( HTML | PDF )
Software Administrators Manual ( HTML | PDF )
Software Programmers Manual ( HTML | PDF )
Configuration Management Plan ( HTML | PDF )
CUPS Implementation of IPP ( HTML | PDF )
Interface Design Description ( HTML | PDF )
Software Design Description ( HTML | PDF )
Software Performance Specification ( HTML | PDF )
Software Security Report ( HTML | PDF )
Software Translation Guide ( HTML | PDF )
Software Test Plan ( HTML | PDF )
Software Version Description ( HTML | PDF )

-------------------------

All those HTML and PDF links are clickable. On my system, the HTML ones all
render correctly (again, _without_ an Internet connection), but the PDF links
yield the error 'Not Found -- The requested resource was not found on this
server.' -- YMMV.

These documents are very useful and quite thorough.

HTH....
