By tear is down I basically mean to reinstall the whole system for test
2 where I make sure that I can do what I want with the RAID 5 with
hot-swap. The whole purpose of the RAID 5 is to have a hot-swap drive in
case of failure. If a drive fails it seems that the drive would be found
with problems, the hardware raid would start to rebuild using the
hot-swap disk and the LVM storage groups never know the difference.

Are you talking about if I were to say "I have too many drives and I
want to remove a drive to use it in another machine"? That should never
happen that I can predict.
