You can use Symantec's Norton Ghost to make a backup of the partition image, or even a bootable CD
or DVD image that will restore the entire drive (including the 'utility' partition).

Alternatively you can use the linux utility dd (disk dump) to make a backup of the entire disk,
easily done from a bootable linux CD such as Knoppix (http://www.knoppix.org). This is of course
the preferred method.

We can provide detailed instructions for either method upon your request, but we will need to
understand exactly what you wish to achieve with more detail.

Do you wish to transfer your existing OS including the utility partition from the existing drive to
your large and newer drive, and then use your old drive for a linux install?

Do you have existing data and applications that you need to preserve from the existing OS? Or do
you simply not want to lose your 'factory image' -- the IBM provided recovery disks can be used to
restore the 'factory image' including the utility partition and OS. I'm confused about what you're
saying regarding the rebate. Why is it exactly that you are concerned with losing your rebate?

Hope to help you soon!
