I haven't found anyone that knows (or is willing to share) the technical
reasons why AD is required.  I'll keep asking around and maybe hook up
with someone that knows something.

Shuuuuush, don't tell the package vendor that!  :-)

BTW, it is _based_ on OpenLDAP.  :-)

DB2 is maintained, don't know about their directory server.

BTW, never let a marketing department choose server software.
We told them our new web server had to run on Linux.  So they went out
and bought DB2, Websphere, and a bunch of other crap I never heard of.
But it all runs on Linux!  Well, it's only supported on RHEL 3.0, so we
now have that too ...

Yes, our current Apache/PHP/PGSQL web server, running on a 733MHz/512MB
P3 (with an average load-average of 0.01), will be upgraded to (4) Dual
Xeon 2.8GHz boxes, running all this commercial software ...

Even if it was the greatest, I wouldn't want to add another Unix into
our mix here.
