Nope, I've seen this on our SuSe 9.3 host;  it does get really slow
after you reboot the VM a few times.  This doesn't seem to happen on
SuSe 10.0.  (I'd be more prone to blame glibc than the kernel, but
whatever.... upgrade and the problem seems to go away.)  It hasn't been
a problem for us since I copy the VM to my laptop, do all the maint in
my own copy of VMware and then copy it back - then I "shutdown -r 02:00"
- so the box reboots at 2am.
