[KLUG Members] Undoing SUSE 10.0 symbolic links

Hello All,
One of the things that an online help page told me to do to help
with printer setup was to create the following symbolic links. It
also told me to remove them when I was done. The first one I'm
assuming didn't take because of ??? I'm not so sure about the
second one.

> linux:~ # ln -s /etc/init.d/cups /etc/init.d/lpd
> linux:~ # ln -s /etc/init.d/cupsys /etc/init.d/lpd
> ln: creating symbolic link `/etc/init.d/lpd' to `/etc/init.d/cupsys': File exists
> linux:~ # cd /home/peter/downloads

I then issued the rm command and got this.

> linux:~ # rm /etc/init.d/cups /etc/init.d/lpd
> rm: cannot remove `/etc/init.d/cups': No such file or directory
> rm: cannot remove `/etc/init.d/lpd': No such file or directory
> linux:~ # rm /etc/init.d/cupsys /etc/init.d/lpd
> rm: cannot remove `/etc/init.d/cupsys': No such file or directory
> rm: cannot remove `/etc/init.d/lpd': No such file or directory
> linux:~ #

I can't seem to find much about removing links either in the
books I bought or online. Yes, Novell "support" is a joke. The
one reference I can find; in the Linux for dummies book
(fitting); is that these kinds of links are roughly the same as a
shortcut in MS. So it wouldn't be the worst thing if it stays
there but it would be nice to clean it up. Based on the last
output can I assume that the links were never made then? Neither
file seems to exist in my filesystem, could have been used and
removed during the successful installation of my CUPS printer?
Peter
