Which video card and driver were you using? If you used the fglrx driver from ATI's site that will cause it not to load properly because the module has to be rebuilt when the kernel is patched. The updates had a kernel patch if I am not mistaken. Nvidia may be the same issue, but I am not sure. I know it was with SuSE 9.1. Verify which type of video card you have and if any proprietary drivers have been loaded by you and get back to me.

Subject: [KLUG Members] Ubuntu upgrade -- resulting problems

Recently we installed Ubuntu 6.06, and today a bucnh of updates became
available. After dowload, the X server did not come up, but failed, in
specifics, it seems that the message "No Device Found" is the root cause
of our problem. Hardware has not changed.

1. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

2. what utilities are available in this distro to respecify the X server
paramters (as is probed/indicated at install time)?

3. How can an update be "rolled back" in this distro?

We have done all the "routine" examination of the Ubuntu site and other
sources online, perused user guides and articles under related keywords
via search engines....

Looking forward to a plethora of responses with brilliant insight, knowledge
and experience.
