Then I would have to assume that my device drivers are actual? I
know my devices are linked to the virtual machine because that's what's
reported by VM Ware but I'm not sure about the drivers. I always assumed
they were virtual because the devices show up as virtual. I guess I'm
showing my ignorance here again. I have no trouble connecting to and
using windows update at
<http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us>.

Well, if you look at the WDM, you will see that none of the devices are actually installed in your machine. Genuine Advantage requires that your WDM database matches what is linked to your Product ID. You could get away with running a 9x/ME installation because it used vxd files anyway, but NT/2000/XP uses actual device drivers specifically written to interface directly with the hardware using the HAL. Since M$ cannot positively verify that you are actually running the hardware, then it's not possible to install the updates that require WGA to be installed and your product verified.
