Ok this needs to be done while connected to the internet via modem.  If it is connected, then it could be something to do with the authentication by earthlink.  If I remember correctly, you need to see if you can connect to Earthlink in windows using only Dial Up Networking.  If you can not, and it requires you to use Earthlink Software to connect, then you may want to search the web using google for any possible cases of Linux and Earthlink.  If you can use Dial up Networking only in the windows install, then it is most likely not using the correct protocol to connect.  There are two that you can trail and error.  PAP and CHAP.  If one will not work try the other.  Verify you can connect to SBC/ATT Dial by looking up access numbers in your area and ruling out that the install of pppd in SuSE is not corrupt.  I have a feeling, that since you can connect with windows but not with linux that it's a software specific client connection or your protocol type is not correct.

Suse 10.0 on a P3 with 7xx mb ram.  When trying to use dialup, the dialer works correctly but the connection takes forever and if you get to start a screen it basically never completely loads.  Here is the results of "route -n" at the terminal.

linux:/home/meallison # route -n

Destination     Gateway         Genmask         Flags Metric Ref    Use Iface

I am on their machine but using DSL which seems to work fine.

What does this tell us and how can we fix?
