[KLUG Members] RE: Firewire Drive Troubleshooting, SBP-2 timed-out

I've always had buggy experiences with the Linux-1394.org project.

I've captured video over firewire. I've used an external firewire drive
and actually got quite a good amount of use out of it. But these
timeouts seem to occur and keeps me from taking firewire devices
seriously. I had once had hopes of stringing an array of firewire
drives and building a large software raid array. But after seeing these
types of errors I've decided it wouldn't be such a good idea.

I also was never able to get a firewire tape drive from Ecrix/Exabyte to
work via Firewire on Linux. Same sort of login / timeout messages.

I hope they can get it to work in the future. It seems that using
Firewire to connect to video devices seems to work better though. Maybe
it's the fault of the firewire to ATA bridge devices.
