[KLUG Members] install Brother printer in Fedora 4

As nearly as I can make out from the Brother pages, I need to first
install a special lpr (lpd) driver and then a cupswrapper (whatever that
is). (http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/index.html) Prior to
installing the lpr driver, they say, I have to have lpd running. But I
can't figure out how to do that.

I think I should be able to go to Desktop, System Settings, Printing and
select LPD there somehow. But the option to enable LPD protocol is
grayed out. Or stop CUPS with '/etc/init.d/cups stop' and start lpd with
'/etc/init.d/lpd start'. But the latter command won't hunt.

My RedHat 8 Bible suggests that I should find the lpd startup script
in /etc/init.d. CUPS and a bunch of other are there, but no lpd. Is this
outdated info wrt Fedora 4?

This is all frustrating and seemingly a move backward in making Linux
user friendly, since, in Mandrake 10.1, my Brother printer was ID'd and
ran automatically.
