It does.  Sendmail doesn't store mail, it always uses a delivery agent;
the default delivery agent just stuffs messages in an mbox (which is
lousy).  It is just a matter of swapping out the delivery agent as you
do when using Cyrus (you use the lmtp delivery agent).
