Mark,

I have been seeing something similar on my samba server (Athlon 1800+,
only serving my home LAN). Granted, its running email, anti-spam,
anti-virus, LDAP, etc but it is only for my wife, myself, and I suppose
my puppy. When I bring up the Windows network graph in the task manager
I see very spiky traffic. 20MBit, then .06, then 60MBit, then 2MBit,
etc. Not a smooth transaction. When I copy files to another XP with a
open share, it goes about 80MBit solidly. Maybe your problem will prompt
me to do more investigation.
