Greetings from across the lake.  I have to wonder about either the 
server you are connecting to or the machine from which you are 
initiating the connection.  Maybe there is another machine on the 
network which has acquired the same ip address as one of the machines.
I've seen a similar symptom happen once before when I had a DHCP server 
mis-configured to give away the server's IP address to a client.  I 
thought somebody was hijacking my SSH session.  Needless to say it was 
exciting, I blushed like crazy afterwards.
