Try an lspci to find your video card, or what module is being used in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. That will tell you whether you will need a third party driver or not. If the card is ati or nvidia you most likely will. Make sure any plug and play is disabled in the IBM Bios so it doesn't conflict with the kernel parameters.

Subject: [KLUG Members] Thinkpad T22 Ubuntu 6.10 Install

Hi Everyone,
    Just an update on my adventures. Fresh on the heels of my Ubuntu 6.06
install on a similar machine, I tried to install the same on a T22
Thinkpad. It didn't work so well; suspend and resume broke; but I read a
post on the Ubuntu forums that version 6.10 solved those problems. It
did indeed but it wasn't w/o it's own problems. Apparently X has
problems with the LCD screen. The fix described here
<http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installing_Ubuntu_on_a_ThinkPad_T21>
solved that. I did just the first part; up to and including step 6; not
the additional steps. I finished updating the install from the included
repositories and checked that suspend/resume did in fact work. I'll
finish adding all the goodies tomorrow.
    So far Ubuntu/Gnome has impressed me. I'm still getting used to the
'sudo' concept but it works. I do have a slight problem with 6.06 on the
T30 randomly freezing. So far days apart and seemingly random.

Regards,
