[KLUG Members] loopback vanished

Udev on my Gentoo box got confused a while back, and while I've fixed
most of the problems, My loopback network adapter still doesn't exist.
The boot script that tries to bring up loopback (basically running
ifconfig lo up and etc) fails with a message "network interface lo does
not exist; Please verify hardware of kernel module (driver)". Loopback
isn't supposed to need a driver in the usual sense, so how do I tell
what kernel module or special file it's looking for?
