I've got AT&T DSL here, and I've got the same situation for the name  
servers, which leads me to believe that the DSL modem is acting as a  
DNS proxy server of sorts.

Logging into the DSL modem web interface, I can see what the actual  
AT&T nameservers are.

I'm assuming that it would be a little more optimal to have my IPCop  
box doing the DNS queries instead of the DSL modem, but it ain't  
broke, so I ain't gonna fix it.

My suggestion is to see what settings you have for your ethernet  
connection under windows, and mimicking that exactly under Linux.
